No need for embarrassment about your smile. Dentures are a speedy, custom-made, and convenient option to restore the appearance of your teeth. If you are also experiencing challenges with speech, dentures may be able to help. Dr. James Hutson in Marietta, GA can help you explore your options to get the dentures that best fit you.
Complete Dentures
The most common dentures are complete dentures. Several things you should know about getting this type of dentures are:
- Your new dentures will match the color of your natural gums.
- Your dentist removes any present teeth so that your dentures can fit your gums.
- Saliva helps to hold the gum in place against the gums.
Implants
An alternative to complete dentures is dental implants. If the bones of your jawline are in good condition, you may be a candidate for implants. Some patients may prefer the fit of this type of denture.
Immediate Dentures
If you still have some teeth present, partials may be a good option. Immediate dentures fill in gaps around existing teeth.
Caring for your dentures
Once you receive your dentures, caring for them is easy. Here are a few tips from the American Dental Association to help you maintain great denture care:
- Store your dentures in water to prevent them from warping.
- Brush your teeth with a denture cleaner, toothpaste or mild soap. This removes food, calculus and other debris that may stick to your dentures.
- Be sure to clean any mold that may grow on your dentures as this can lead to irritation of the gums.
Replacing your dentures
- Replace them if you've had them longer than five years.
- If your dentures crack, are unable to fit in your mouth or do not match, go see your dentist.
- There is structural damage to the denture.
